SOUTH COAST PLAZA CELEBRATES THE YEAR OF THE OX
FEBRUARY 10 – 28, 2021
Costa Mesa, Calif. (February 2021) – South Coast Plaza ushers in Lunar New Year Feb. 10-28, 2021 with a celebration filled with special gifts and menus, a spectacular Year of the Ox display, and much more. Now in its 11th year, South Coast Plaza’s 19-day Lunar New Year festivities are the largest and most extensive of any retail center on the West Coast, drawing visitors from all over California.
“South Coast Plaza continues to be at the forefront of Lunar New Year celebrations on the West Coast by providing the best in exclusive and culturally relevant experiences,” said Debra Gunn Downing, spokeswoman for South Coast Plaza. “From limited-edition products from our boutiques and specially created menus by world-class chefs at select restaurants to our spectacular centerpiece, South Coast Plaza is the must-visit destination for all who observe this tradition with style.”
Shoppers will have many opportunities to mark the occasion. They can receive a gift of a limited-edition Year of the Ox crystal sculpture with a minimum purchase, select from Lunar New Year items at many boutiques, attend in-store events, enjoy special menus at participating restaurants, enter to win prizes from luxury boutiques, see specially-designed store displays and windows, and view a digital presentation of cultural performances.
As part of an annual tradition at South Coast Plaza, a dramatic Lunar New Year centerpiece will be on display in Jewel Court beginning Feb. 10. The centerpiece will depict an ox, the second animal in the 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle, symbolizing hard work, perseverance and strength. Decorated with flower and plant parts, the ox is perched atop a giant golden ingot, surrounded by an abundance of golden coins representing great fortune. Floating above are a lucky knot signifying longevity and eternity along with eight animated red envelopes that connote good fortune and prosperity. The centerpiece will rotate in place in Jewel Court to greet guests from all directions.
