South Coast Plaza Launches By Design, A Digital Guide for Product Personalization and Customization

Costa Mesa, Calif. (September 2019) – South Coast Plaza, the international shopping destination, has launched a new amenity for visitors in the fall:  By Design, a comprehensive digital guide to personalization, customization, made-to-order, made-to-measure, and bespoke services offered by the center’s boutiques.

The online guide at southcoastplaza.com provides shoppers with information on where to go at South Coast Plaza for handbags and luggage that can be monogrammed, suits and shirts tailored just for them or shoes that can be personalized through color or accents, among many options. The shopping center is the first in the U.S. to curate a broad array of services and merchandise designed for those who want to make an item more personal or individualized.

“Personalization, customization, made-to-measure and made-to-order are very appealing,” said Debra Gunn Downing, spokeswoman for South Coast Plaza. “There’s the allure of owning a handbag, a pair of shoes or a suit that no one else has because it was made just for that customer. During a visit at a boutique, a customer can view options such as color, fabric, pattern, motif and size up close and feel the materials, which cannot be replicated online. This process of making an item very special or creating one from the ground up becomes an experience for the customer.”

Among the boutiques that exemplify these are Berluti, which specializes in bespoke shoes and ready-to-wear and Louis Vuitton, which has an in-house artisan who hand paints on hard-sided luggage. Other boutiques included in the guide are luxury brands such as Canali, Dior Men, Ermenegildo Zegna, Fendi, Jimmy Choo, Chloé, and Frette, as well as Coach, Furla and Longchamp.
